Data sources
Every trading hour, holiday, release time and daylight saving date on TickClock comes from an official source. This page lists those sources and explains how the data is checked.
Trading hours and holidays
Trading session rules come from each exchange’s published trading rules. Holiday and half-day calendars are entered by hand from exchange and government notices, which are usually published in the last weeks of the previous year, and checked line by line against a written checklist.
China A-share and futures holidays follow the State Council’s annual holiday notice and then the exchanges’ own closure notices, including whether futures night sessions are suspended before a holiday. Hong Kong holidays follow the government’s list of general holidays, which HKEX uses for its trading calendar. US holidays and early closes follow the NYSE and Nasdaq calendars.
Economic calendar
Release dates and times for US data come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics release schedule and the Federal Reserve’s FOMC meeting calendar. An automatic check compares them with the official pages twice a day. Changes, such as a release moved during a government shutdown, are reviewed and then published.
Daylight saving time
Daylight saving changes are calculated by your browser from the IANA time zone database. The rules match the US Energy Policy Act of 2005 as described by NIST, and the EU summer-time directive 2000/84/EC.
What is not covered
Unscheduled closures announced at short notice, such as Hong Kong typhoon and rainstorm halts, system outages or national days of mourning, are not predicted. Always check the exchange notice before trading.
