US daylight saving time and market hours

US daylight saving time starts at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and ends at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. NYSE and Nasdaq keep 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time all year, so the open moves by one hour for anyone outside the US.

Europe switches on the last Sundays of March and October. For a few weeks each spring and autumn the US and Europe are out of step, and the gap between New York and London is four hours instead of five.
